8:30 am of 24 August,2006, Luo droved for Fangcun with his partner
Lou to investigate an affair. He parked the car near an office
building, and began to wait silently. Their respondent was a boss
who worked in the office building. The boss went out his office
frequently and might be absent. So they had to wait for windfalls.
Several hours went by, but they didn’t find out anything.
Suddenly, Luo bounced from cockpit promptly, then opened the car
door and got out. Lou replaced him quickly and started up the car
with no word.
After more than a half hour, Luo called Lou and told that he
had found something important----the boss entered a room, and came
out with a woman hand in hand after ten minutes, then left for meat
and vegetable market. Following the address provided by Luo, Lou
came to the room and observed. “Look that! There are some
children’s clothes that are dried in the air out of the room. And
the client doubted that her husband has a child with other woman. It
is very lucky today! The next step, we have to wait near here till
they go out with the child and take their video.
Like Luo and Lou, many private detectives are in action
everyday in Guangzhou. The manager of Luo and Lou is Chen. He
graduated from Guangdong Public Security School in 1978, had worked
for ten years in Public Security System. He tells reporters that
there are about 30 PD companies registered in Guangzhou, and many
are in this line but in secret.
When reporters take part in the investigation, Luo and Lou
tell them over and over that the work is very bald and boring.
Generally speaking, they take 3 or 5 days to settle a case. If it is
lucky, they may take only one day. And they may take one or two or
more months for some difficult case.
Chen says, people have more money now and get more troubles
than old days. But they have no time and energy to handle these
troubles. So PD industry develops in cities. “Foreign PD companies
have got mature, and right infringe investigations of many big
enterprises in country are done by them.” Recently, Chen and his
staff mainly do some civil investigation. About a half are affair
cases.
There are eight people in Chen’s company, some males and
some females. They all are interested in this line. Lou says he
usually have a rest when he ends a case. He does this to maintain
his excitement and curiosity. “We must be in such a good station
that we can act masterly as different social roles.”
